CMC and Ministry of Information and Communications launch a campaign to promote digital transformation by cloud computing techno
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung affirmed: Vietnam has the desire to rise through digital transformation. Vietnam must master the digital transformation infrastructure and platforms for each industry and each sector. This is the development opportunity for "Make in Vietnam" information technology products. Currently, IT firms in Vietnam are developing many basic and essential platforms for distance learning, distance medical examination and treatment, work from home, video conferencing, remote accounting service, e-newspaper, cyber security, cloud computing infrastructure, etc. It is crucial that data of Vietnam's digital economy cannot be released abroad and archived by foreign companies.
"Digital infrastructure is understood as telecommunications infrastructure plus cloud infrastructure. Domestic telecommunications companies have mastered the telecommunications infrastructure; now they must try to master the digital one. In digital infrastructure, it is important to master cloud platform," Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized.
Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung and leading institutions such as CMC, VNG Cloud, VCCorp, etc. carry out the launching ceremony of digital transformation campaign using cloud computing technology.
Vietnam currently has about 27 data centers invested by 11 domestic enterprises with over 270,000 services connected across the country. Cloud computing service are ready to meet standards, and can be rented by businesses at very competitive price. The current domestic cloud computing market is worth about 200 million USD with an annual growth rate of over 30%. However, Vietnamese enterprises only account for 20% of share in the market. 80% of market share still belong to cloud platforms located abroad.
Minister Nguyen Manh Hung affirmed: The best way to develop domestic infrastructure is that Vietnamese businesses and people should prioritize Vietnamese goods. Developing new technologies for telecommunications, cloud computing, video conferencing, etc. based on open standards and open source is the right and most appropriate direction for us. The open source community in Vietnam is growing along the open source community in the world.
To accomplish the double goal of successful digital transformation and development of digital technology platforms, including cloud platforms whose technology is mastered by Vietnamese businesses, Ministry of Information and Communications promulgated technical criteria and specifications for cloud platform. With these specific criteria and specifications, Ministry of Information and Communications requires cloud platforms in Vietnam to be on par with the world's commercial platforms in terms of functionality, safety and network security.
Representing businesses attending the launching ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh, Chairman of CMC Corporation said: Cloud infrastructure is the most important part of digital infrastructure, which plays a crucial role in successful digital transformation and construction of digital government, digital business and digital life. In 2016, CMC Corporation started to develop cloud platform. In early 2019, CMC officially launched the open ecosystem C.Ope2n, in which the main infrastructure is C.Cloud, which had an impressive growth of 250% per year.
"However, a company is only a single individual and it is difficult to compete in the world market alone. Therefore, with an alliance, businesses will have a resonance and create great strength," Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh said.
At the launching ceremony, 11 cloud computing service providers in Vietnam announced their commitment to participating in the campaign and offered a discount of 20% to all clients newly registering Vietnamese cloud computing service in 2 months (from May 22 to July 22) in order to stimulate market demand, contribute to promoting economic development, and assisting agencies and businesses to bring their operations online.
